#WHYWEKENDO
At Metro Kendo Club, we don't just teach you how to strike. We follow the official concept of Kendo: to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (sword).
Through rigorous keiko (training), we cultivate a vigorous spirit, learn to treat others with courtesy and honor, and strive for self-improvement that extends far beyond the dojo walls.

About US
Legacy
The story of Metro Kendo Club begins long before its official name existed. In the early 1990s, the seeds of Philippine Kendo were sown by Japanese expatriates seeking to keep the spirit of Budo alive in Manila. Among them was the respected Yamanishi-sensei, whose dedication turned a small group of practitioners into a resilient community. For decades, Japanese and Filipino practitioners crossed swords, building a foundation of discipline, respect, and cross-cultural friendship.
Growth
As the community matured, so did its ambitions. In 2014, the club’s leadership envisioned a new chapter. To better serve the growing number of practitioners and to foster a more inclusive, structured environment, Metro Kendo Club was born. It wasn't just a change of name; it was a commitment to elevating Kendo in the Philippines to international standards.
Metroken today
Today, Metroken stands as one of the largest and most active clubs in the country, with over 60+ active members practicing at Gatorade Hoops Center and Treston International College.
As a proud member of the United Kendo Federation of the Philippines (UKFP), affiliated with the International Kendo Federation (FIK), we don't just practice for ourselves, we represent the Philippines on the global stage, participating in international tournaments, examinations, and seminars.
